Work, love, & play makes a great rounded person. I think we all need a balance in our life. I like the concepts Doris talked about and how she related them to Lincoln and Johnson. I also picked up that one indirect thought about the upcoming elections. Do we really know the candidates on a personal level? Proballly not… Doris took the time to research and find the real Abe Lincoln, including the story on the outhouse. Lincoln was a great story teller so is she.

After watching the video about LBJ and Lincoln, I would have to write that these men accomplised and lived what they were put on this earth to do. Especially, Lincoln, after overcoming his challenges, he started to live life and became one of the greatest Presidents in the United States. One of my favorite quotes from Lincoln, "I may be slow but I never walk backward."

Being able to cope in a healthy and positive manner probably helped Lincoln go foward with his life. You never really get to experience and life life until you make decisions to cope with it in a healthy manner.

I loved her statement regarding Lincoln and “fierce ambition is a good thing to accomplish something worthy”! Furthermore, the extreme dedication and devotion he had to leave his mark on the world. So often I hear a negative connotation to ‘fierce ambition’ especially with regards to females. Empathy, Integrity, Honesty and Fairness can all exist within fierce ambition and often time’s people overlook these aspects when they hear that term. She did a great job at bringing light to critical characteristics that need to accompany ambition. Furthermore, I was never aware that Lincoln came from such a destitute background…(staying up all night to read the bible because he was excited to have a book?!?) That kind of appreciation is rarely seen anymore. It can make one stop and think and rethink their actions and their situations.

It is inspiring to hear the history of two great leaders and they path of struggle, determination and success in both their private and public lives. This reminds me of a book I just completed “Manhunt” the story of Booths days before and after the assassination. The book dives into the details of the war ending and the toll it took on Lincoln’s body, especially face. This summer I was in Washington D.C. and saw side-by-side pictures of Lincoln, before and after the war. The toll and stress that war took on his body is clearly evident and the pure sacrifice he made was truly historic.

Now, that we have a new President, I opted to look and listen to this video again. Lincoln had a hard life, but finally he realized that honor & reputation is why we are here. Fueled by his ambition; he opted to pursue and fulfill his goals. Our new President will have a lot of issues to deal with. We all know that the economy is in a recession, even though politicans don’t like to use that word. I would think this will be one of the first issues addressed. It will be interesting to see what we can learn from our new President Barack Obamma. I am sure many reporters or writer will be keeping a close watch on our new leader.

True Annette! President Elect Obama said he has been reading Lincoln and FDR during their transitions. Many of the cabinet positions Lincoln picked was from what we would consider his enemy list, however, he saw them as the other great thinkers of the time. He was competing with them, but it was clear they too had a place in history. A great article on this is at: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/30/AR2008103003677.html
